Poverty is an enduring problem that needs lasting solutions if it is to be defeated. While emergency aid undoubtedly has its place, it is important that we build communities and give them the ability to provide for themselves and become self-sufficient.
We have started a micro-finance project for women in Africa. We provide interest-free loans to enable them to start up their own business. Then, a small amount of their profit goes to paying the loan off. Once they have a fully profitable business and have paid back the loan the money will be lent again to another woman to allow her to start a business. This cycle can continue indefinitely, meaning your donation can help transform not only the lives of many women, but also their families.
Giving a woman a business helps empowerment, and the extra income can be used to give their children an education, helping break the cycle of debt and poverty for good.
Just £100 is enough to give a woman the opportunity to start her own business, and as the money is reused indefinitely, the rewards are massive.
